Hi again.

I really want to now if this 2 holes each side of the rear beam is dangerous.
No damage was found around and I start to polish all the interior radius to clean the edge and stop some futur crack.
I have the original plan and I don't see this anywhere. I think is for the flaps mechanism but I don't like that. Not at this place. Airframe has 228TT.
My plan:
A- Replace the entire section, but is a real big job.
B- Removed the rear wings attach and put 2 doubler in 2024T3 0.032 on each side.
C- ........
Builder and Thorp specialist send me all you ideas.

I think I would carefully clean it up, radius the ends of the slot & prime.
Or patch it, Reference 43.13 for metal repair, rivet size, spacing etc.

Although It may be to close to the tab for a patch ?

The top hole looks like it may have been for a pass thru for electrical wiring ? The sloted area I would clean up the opening and put a doubler on each side and rivet . The main structural part is the fitting riveted to the web/angle . IMHO .

Thierry: As Rich said the upper hole may have been use to route wires through.

For the lower slotted hole:
Clean up the radius and rough edges (to prevent crack growth).
Following clean up measure from the web doubler to the edge of the verticle slot.
To have an effective repair you must maintain 2 times the solid rivet shank diameter min edge distance.
If less than this min edge distance measurement you will have a repair area that is prone to cracking.

Suggested repair:
In your case the min edge distance may require you to extend the repair to include the 2 verticle rows of rivets for the web doubler.

No need to repair. This is per the S-18 plans. It is for the inboard flap spring. I did mine another way. I would, however, dress up the edges to prevent cracking.

Thanks for all the answer.
This is my flap torque tube. Is this the design for a S-18 flap system. Tube is in stainless steel and very heavy. In my Thorp plan, all the mechanism was different!

Never seen anything like it for an S-18 or T-18 ? Maybe for some type of electric flap ? No difference between the S-18 and T-18 flap set up (torque tube) other than the length of the inboard flap . Not sure why it would be SS ? BOOM !

Some years ago a builder had come up with a cross shaft that would deploy both flaps without the risk of a cable breaking; this might be that setup.
Both T and S use the same flap cable system inside the fuselage, the only difference is the outboard flap on the S. The plans call for the flap mast to be made using aluminum, I used 4130 tubeas several others have.
