A discussion was had this year at Sun n Fun around holding a Spring Thorp Gathering in Gulf Shores, AL (KJKA). We've held one there in the past and the facilities are really great. We'll have our own clubhouse on the field to hang out in, usually stocked with lunch each day and a gorgeous beach to fly over or walk down.

I'm looking into getting a block of rooms (will report back on that).

Please let me know if you're interested.

Details ...

Jack Edwards Airport, Gulf Shores, AL

June 14-16

I'm In. I'll still be in Gray primer and in phase 1. But they gave me 100 miles from KCEW and KJKA qualifies.

I am flying the time off of one and they would only give me a 30 mile radius. At thorp speed that doesn’t take long.

Ok guys .. I've arranged to have a block of rooms held for us until 5/17 ... so please if you plan to attend make a reservation before then.

Here's the info ...

Holiday Inn and Suites, Gulf Shores, AL.

https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/h ... US-_-GFSCM

Call 251-948-6191 and say you are with the Thorp T-18 Group.

Prices in that area are all about then same the rate is not great but they are helping us out a bit.

and yes Col. Highley ... hot breakfast is included .

Another option is to call Gulf Air Center http://www.gulfaircenter.com 251-968-5200 and ask them to reserve a room trough their negotiated rate (cheaper) at Staybridge Suites ... this is farther down the road from the airport and headed away from the beach but as I said cheaper ... I just cannot reserve a block with them

You guys let me know what you'd like to do.

Lee

FYI, I just tried to make a reservation for the group rate and was told I need to call between 9 and 4 Central time Monday Through Friday to reach the group sales office. I will call again tomorrow. I am also getting a rental car.

Gulf Shores got bumped by a grandson's 6th birthday celebration. Maybe next time.

We are chatting about another Bahamas run. How's that affect your great circle distance? And yes Fraser, they did have drinks with the little umbrellas.

It only adds another 543 nmi for a total of 2427 nmi. I like drinks with umbrellas in them. 8) 8) 8)
