My T18 has a plastic air filter holder, from my research it is a Matney. It's broken and I want to replace it with a Brackett. It appears the Matney is dimensionally similar to the BA 4210 used on Grummans. Anybody have a suggestion, guidance, etc?

I'm going to jump in here to ask questions as well. Jeff, what intake assembly do you have?

I have a round car based intake and it's not filtering well. I want to change it to something nice and new like what everyone else is using. I will have a post for it.

I am not 100% sure because I am not where I can check the receipts included in the aircraft file but I think it is this one:

I was thinking that I would like to change. There is no seal between my cowl and the air filter.

Jeff, thanks. Brackett 4210 and 4106 appear to be identical dimensions. Don't know the diff. Still researching.

Thanks for the link, that looks perfect!

That's one thing I was thinking would cause a problem. Pressurized air is getting forced into my lower cowl thus causing less Delta differential for my cylinders. Mine has a gap around the intake and I was wanting to seal it up because I think the ram air is reducing my cooling to the cylinders. This also has a much better carb heat portion. I'll have to find a way to measure my cowl distance and then a way to seal it to the lower cowl to keep air from entering my lower cowl.

My other thought was to run a duct from the back of my baffling like david read did in order to completely remove the scoop and thus reduce drag on this little 290 powered ship!

My gap is pretty small so it may not be worth the effort to seal up. I would hate to change it just to have the engine and/or accessories start hitting the cowl again. My setup won’t support it but somewhere in these web pages are pictures of a setup using wetsuit material to connect the cowl to the airbox that I thought would work well.

David’s setup should work good too. I don’t think I have seen pictures of it and I never made it down to meet him.

Don't remember the name ,but the race car folks use a rubber round tube molded to a thin channel that slips over the edge of aluminum

I might have to fiberglass in a round section and just hook scat tubing to it

Closing the loop to my question: The Brackett 4210 is dimensionally identical to the Matney. Fits perfectly.
