That's a pretty good deal! Glad to hear you have access to cast rings now. From eci they were over 200$ for the set and this is a little over 300$ for piston and rings!

This would have really upped the zoom in my 290 but I'm not going through that tear down again! :)
Stock d pistons are 6.5:1.

So far 12 hours on the new chrome rings from Dana and going strong. Burning minimal oil even at 12 hours. I've used a quart the last 5 hours. I have 3 chrome ring sets from him but had to get my expensive cast set from eci.

If I run these out and need new again I'd definitely enjoy those 8:1

Jeff,
I am so very glad to have been able to help. I just wish we had a better timeline, I.E. more lead to get my sources ironed out. For the few hundred $ more we could have put the 8.25:1 in for you for a easy 10hp gain. Sounds like it is smoothing out so I'm happy and hope you are too. If anyone knows anyone with a O-290 spread the gospel. I may be busy with all my stuff but never too busy to help a Mouse Motor flyer out.

I think David read on here has a second t18 and if I remember correctly it has a 290.

The 10 hp would be nice although I think engine temps might have become an issue with my current cowling. On hot days I was running pretty warm. It needs the new cowl and updated baffles.

Maybe in the future. Currently my attitude indicator is on the way out so I'm probably going to invest in an efis.

Are the rings custom? auto style or original o-290 type?

May be interested in a set 10:1 in the future.

Anyone looking for a EFIS may want to look at the Garmin G5, at $1,200.00 it is a bargain. I put one in my Thorp and it works great.

Lou, rings are straight, not keystone. Rings are cast iron, moly faced or chrome. I also recommend straight bores, not choked. This is all better quality than Lycoming labeled parts for the O-290.

Hey all,

I have complete piston/pin/rings/buttons in stock for the O-290. 8.5:1 compression, standard bore. $1350 delivered to your door. I also have a set of
cylinders being straight bored, plated, ported with overhaul. Not cheap but with the pistons I have will make your O-290 into at least 155hp. Cryo and surface
treatments availabe that allow cooler running. These will be available on an exchange basis only upon receipt of your standard bore cylinders.

Just received my set of O-290 pistons from Dana. Wow! they are beautiful, just wish my project was at a point where I could put they to use immediately. They are 8.5 to1 comp. with rings, pins and buttons. I am going to be using them in a set of standard chromed cylinders. I do have a complete set of 69841-P10 pistons and rings in case someone might be interested in them.
