Has anyone ever used a fairing at the base of the vertical fin and fuselage intersection? If so, did you notice any appreciable speed increase?

Before I bought 'Feisty', I looked at an S-18 that had such a fairing. It was a triangular leading edge fairing. The front of it just cleared the canopy when it was all the way open. It's rise to the vertical stab was less than 45 degrees.
I did not fly the plane.
I always thought it was to assist with spin recovery, which the S-18 might be more difficult to recover from?

If you gained 1 MPH with the fairing it would be a miracle ! :o I think it is more of an appearance item than a speed item . :P I have the CSA fiberglass fairing sitting on my shelf...come and get it ! :-*

I just finished to bend the edge. Now I have to utilise some sheet metal tools to finish the job properly.

I have no reference for the speed, but I want the WOW effect on the tarmac at the airport! 8)

That vertical fin fairing does look sharp, but what will be faired with the belly fairing?

Here's mine....never much cared for the aesthetics of it. Was going to leave it off when I painted, but there's a mounting base already riveted to the fuselage, so, back on it went.
Thierry's however looks wicked cool!
