Denny, I'm only a little over an hour south of you in Elizabeth City, NC (ECG).

Great! I know it well. Lots of trips to Dare CO. & FFA over the years. I usually take the scenic route over Williamsburg (

Maybe I can buzz down to meet you. I'd enjoy having you look my bird over and perhaps get a little dual?

Anytime, I manage the airport so I'm always here. I'm also a CFI and would be happy to fly with you. If you're not already planning on it, you need to make sure you get to the fall fly-in at Kentucky Dam in October. You can get ALL your questions answered there, even the one's you're not smart enough to ask. :)

I look forward to it Scott. My insurance wants me to get an hour with a CFI before coverage. I have been trying to get proficient enough to put someone else in the plane with me. I only have 8 landings in 6937. One of them was ok.

I just printed the template to check stabilator travel

Geting together with others smarter than me sounds like a prudent plan.

With the short gear, you will touch tail wheel first. Nothing wrong with that if you are ready. Your speeds sound wrong. What does it read at stall? I stall at 53kts with flaps 20 (one notch). I fly 80 in the pattern and come over the fence at 70kts. Power off and hold her off until she settles into landing attitude. It is easier to wheel land, if you have the runway.

After measuring the stabilator travel I confirmed what I knew in the pattern. Photos in my album. Trimmed for about 85mph was just about the end of the nose up authority. I was unable to pull 30 degree flaps and get the nose level. 2 notched were very challenging and I had to use power to attempt a flare. The pics show the additional travel from a line I marked on the fuselage. The trim tab was even with full deflection. Now, you can see the difference. The seat was acting as a stop!! The pics show the travel with seats removed.
Seats are not adjustable and sit on angles as far aft as space allows.

All seats are adjustable with a hacksaw.

Sounds like you are going to have to redo the seat bottoms if they can not be moved aft any further. :P

Another area to consider is the age of the airspeed indicator. If the static check is fine, look there. 40-60 seems a bit high on Taxi tests, but maybe not for your pitot location. Good Luck with it.
