Frasier is right for once. This discussion warrants a new topic. Would like to see if there is interest in holding a small gathering to tech/ talk about formation training and or aerobatics in the Thorp. If folks are interested in aerobatic training, I would suggest a low altitude airport such as KVIS. If not, the formation stuff could happen anywhere. I was thinking late March, early April. Anyone? Beuhler?

Early April at KVIS for Form brief/training would work for me . Fly up , brief & do form hop . Land & debrief at local watering hole . RON and conduct Dawn Patrol form mission . I don't write the flight schedule , I just give inputs to the CO ! ???

Cubes, sign me up! It was made painfully obvious last weekend that I need a bit more polish in the Thorp handling arena. Learned a lot in Havasu, but eager to make a better showing next time, and maybe earn a wingman card. Hoping to get to Sun N Fun so any week that's not LAL week could work for me.

If you do the formation clinic in the SLC area, I've got the 6 bedroom Utah starter home with a couple spare bedrooms open for anyone who needs a place to hang their hat. I think there is a reasonable chance (NOT promising anything, but I've got a lead...) I can get hangar access for a few Thorps at U42 (South Valley / SLC #2 airport) if the timing works out.

If not SLC, I'm in for KVIS, too. Or wherever.

Cheers!

I'm in Cubes - I too have a spare bedroom should SLC become an option - any weekend but March 29th - I have a hair appointment, massage, and B-day dinner with She Who Eye Wership scheduled.

Well, assuming Ira and Dean at KVIS are in, that would make four elements, 2 fourships, or one big 8 ship flatupants.

I am not an arobatic Pilot, I do Fly with Ira and Dean in fairly close proximity and we do fine but I am not a formation pilot by any sence of the word and I do know my own capabilities so I believe I would like to give this formation stuff a try, I think I could learn it. A group of RVs flew over my house last weekend probably at about 1500 ft in a formation and they were in tight, they really looked sharp. I think I would be a bit on the nervy side but with instruction I think I just might do ok...Dan

The 20th of April is out for me. The 13th of April is doable but it is the acro competition at Borrego.

Just set a date and I can work around it . Last form flight I had was 35 years ago until I flew with the Col. at T-82 during the Spring Fly In . I was sweating like a Training Command Student to keep in position , but after all that time it all came back and coming into the break felt great ! ;) One potatoe , 2 potatoe , 3 potatoe , 4 potatoe ! Sorry a VP taught me how to spell . ??? BOOM !

So, I'm gathering we have interest in formation, but not aerobatics. Also, we have folks in San Diego, LA, KVIS, KEDW, and KSLC interested. And strong druthers on where this is done? We have more flexibility without the aerobatics. Oh, I forgot Denver area too.
