Quick Survey Folks I am setting up to locate fastners for my CSA fiberglass cowling. I am planning on using Milspec adjustable C lock fastners.....really cool and eliminate the multiple stud length issue. I have seen Tom Hunters pattern of 6in cheek top spacing and 10in bottom spacing buthe is using a metal cowl. How about it glass guys....what spacing is enough but not too much......4in.....6in....? You will bee very happy with the MilSpec adjustable locks. [8D] I used them. You're right, only one length stud is required. A wee bit more $$$ than the standard type, but worth it. You can carry a couple of spares (studs...same length) with you. [;)] Go with the S/S studs. RX115 has the following pattern on it's CSA cowl. x x x x x x x x (6) Side cheek Top. x x x (8) Approx. 3" spacing...Top cowl rear. x x (8) Approx. 5" spacing Side cheek, Bottom x x x x x x x x x The top of the cowl cheek has a few less fastners than the bottom due to the cowl cheek concealed hinges I installed. DO NOT skimp on the spacing of the locks to save a few bucks ! The MilSpec site will also give you a recommended spacing. |

Scott, Check out WWW.skybolt.com This outfit is owned by a friend of mine and makes some really neat CamLock type fasteners. I recommend you look at the CLoc 4000 series common sets. The N-3 stud holder is made for fiberglass as it has a wide flange. N711SH has the following setup for the studs: XXXXXX X XXXXXXX Make sure you check where they fall as you can really make a mess if don't check clearance on baffles and exhaust pipes. |

Glass Guru's, Guy's I'm attaching a new scoop also and it's going fairly well. However, I keep getting some scalloping, I tried a heat gun which removes much of it, but once it cools some returns. Any thoughts on how to get it to Image Insert:  Put File Caption Hereflatten out? Chuck Kincer |

Chuck, You need to build it up with some more glass, and possibly add a stiffener. It's scalloping because the material is too thin. When you're building it up you can sandwich a strip of aluminum in there as well, that'll help keep it down too. |

These are the MILSPEC ajustable camlock fastners. Same footprint as typical fixed models. Interestingly, the floating model is more expensive than the fixed due to mfg costs. Expensive little buggars, but seem to be worth it. All use the same stud length and then are adjusted by screwing in or backing out the threaded insert. Once adjusted the pin is pulled and they stay in place. They also make really nice SS grommets...S....M....L. Image Insert:  Put File Caption Here |

Yep...these are the ones I used. The beauty is being able to use the same length stud for all the locks ! Well worth the little extra for the adjustable, over fixed units, not having to try and figure the proper stud length for each location. Put a spare set in the pack up kit, just in case I need one. I posted the MILSPEC site on the vendors list quite a while back. RB |
