Lost my hangar. N8786 SN929 is a flying project. I'll post pix later. August condition inspection, O-320E2D about 1600 SMOH, Sensenich prop. 2 comms, Garmin 327, G496 with Wx. I had planned a bunch of mods over the winter, but got tossed by my hangar-lord. $15,000 and I'll throw in my project stuff: AP, servos, 160hp pistons, elect trim parts, more.

As promised, here's a few pix. Panel is in transition and needs some cosmetics. Airframe and engine are working great.

In response to some recent inquiries:

Built in late 1973, early 1974 by Don Phelps in California, sold and flown to Pa in mid 70's. I'm the 5th owner. 984# EW, but I'm going to re-weigh it this week. Flys like a Thorp, solid. Parts included in the $15k include a TruTrak AP with servos and harness, EI US8A engine monitor, electric trim "kit", 4 HC pistons, pins, rings, gaskets. Not included but available are new Sterba 68x74 prop, new Saber extension, nearly new Skytec starter.

29 gal fuel, everything works. Located at KALX, hangared for a few more months thanks to the good graces of the airport mananger.

I'd really like to sell it inside the Thorp community, dealing with the Barnstormers/et al crowd is frustrating.

Last chance, it goes on Barnstormers tomorrow at a higher price. Forum price will be honored until BS posting.

Rap, was this airplane ever in Virginia? I only ask because I hangared my T18 just outside the DC ADIZ for a while, and there was a T18 that looked just like this one across the field. I met the guy a couple times, but I cant recall his name. I don't even recall the name of the airport, but it was a good drive from the DC area.

It seems a shame that the decision of a faceless hangar lord is causing you to sell this sweet plane. I'm wondering if you can take the wings off and take it home and keep it until another hangar opens up? Either way, good luck and thanks for letting us know first! :(

Ryan: Mx records that have a location show: Ca, Ore, WV and Pa. a

John: It goes on BS soon, but the "pull the wings and put in storage" option is in the cards if someone doesn't get it before eviction. Right now the airport mgr has taken pity on the Thorp and put me in a corner of a corp hangar. But when the jet returns I'm on the ramp. The corp jet is going thru some progressive mx, and a panel upgrade so I might have a bit of an extension. But the mgr said plan on 1 Jan to be outside.

There are some personal issues pulling on me, too. The day I bought the T18, my father went in the hospital, and died mid May. Mom has been moved to assisted living, I need to sell her house. She's 550 mi away, using the Thorp won't work for visits as I'm bringing home family heirlooms each round trip. Someone stole $40k from her savings acct, and DFAS has screwed up her survivor benefit, so no pay since May. She's 96 and really can't deal with all this, so it's on me, and I'm happy to do it. But that puts the T18 on hold for months, not days or weeks.

Thanks to all who have contacted me on this one.

Bumping this one, again. Since the above thread I've added several things to the panel, repainted the cowl for better cosmetics. Replaced the windscreen, have installed a TT gemini. Looking for low 20s to recoup some of my expenditures. Reason selling (a never ending story) My right retina has gone wonky, distorted vision makes for ugly landings in a TW. Dealing with some other med issues, it's time to bail on flying.

PM with an email that can receive whatever you request: Pix, docs, etc. N8786 is not a museum piece, 1600hr engine, airframe needs a few tweaks to be a really nice weekend flyer and xc machine. I'll throw in a box of parts for the projects I had planned for it. Sterba prop gone, upgraded to TT gemini, 160 pistions included, ADSb in/out installed, elect trim in a box. It's really ready to go as is, but a winter of project work would make it great.

Thanks for looking,

Rap

Excellent! Glad she will be getting back in the air soon. Sorry to see you go. Lots of folks used to drive to the Thorp events when they hung up their flying spurs. Might consider that. Always welcome.
