Wisc;
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Do you have any experience with Thorps? Or something similar?
Are you a aircraft home builder, or a student pilot looking for a plane to learn in?
What do you expect, and what are your requirements?
That is to say; Have you ridden in a T-18, or does it just seem like a cool plane you might be interested in?
No, I don't know that plane. But I do have a good and growing relationship with a T-18 that I bought on first sight. Even worse, it had been sitting in a hangar unflown for 9 years, and my only contact person was the daughter of the owner!
I used inspection data from these pages to assess the craft and make my offer, then used that data, plus the FAA form data for a condition inspection. I had a trusted A&P inspect my work and sign the log.
Does this sound like you? Or are you looking to have an A&P do the pre-buy and condition inspection etc.???
I can't advise you on the plane. But you might try looking at it, sitting in it, checking it out, and getting a feeling about it.
I didn't buy the first T-18 I looked at. One didn't fit me, and didn't meet some of the inspection criteria, another was too expensive + too rough. Too bad, it was an S-18 with an O-360.
I ended up with a sweet T-18 with an O-290 for a very good price, at an airport very close to home, in fact, it was the closest of the three!
It turns out, there is another one in the hangar across from the T-18 I bought....might be for sale some day, the owner doesn't fly it much.
It's about timing, availability, and you.

Dean,
That's Wayne Irwin's (original builder) airplane. I have not seen it in many years but it was a darn nice airplane in its day. If its been taken care of since and not neglected, damaged etc it should be a good airplane.

Here's another one... does anyone know this airplane personally? Having been built by Earl Ody, it's probably a good one. I have a friend who's interested.

That airplane was written up in Sport Aviation a while back (as in decades). John, West Houston Airport is right down the road from my office. I'd be glad to put eyes on if you like.
