Usher makes good products. Just mount it so that you will drain it before each flight and can easily remove it for inspection at annual time. Gascolators that are hard to get to often do not get used.

Mounted my usher to the firewall using (2) standoffs to give me room to remove the sediment bowl . It has been on for 10 years with no problems . Recommend you have a couple of sediment filters and Viton o-rings on hand . Cheap parts and there when you need them for annuals .

Hey Rich, if you get really bored during the COVID19 lock-in, I would love to see some photos of how you mounted your Usher gascolator. I've copied most everything else from you, why not my gascolator mount too.

I'll give it a try ! ??? Won't make it to the airport until Sat/Sun . Will see what I can do ? I went to the double aught spy class taught by Jethro Bodine and graduated with a D - in photo makin ! :P

Dude: Best I could do with the bottom cowl in place . One week earlier and I would have had a clear shot during the annual with the cowl off . Nothing fancy about the mounting...except it was installed during the build with the fuel tank not in place and a clear firewall for mounting . No problems with the unit after 10 years in place .

Post subject:  What is used to attach cork/rubber to airframe?
Getting ready to install my fuel tank (DWG 528). Plans call out for rubber and cork to be cemented to the airframe. 2 questions:
1. What is the preferred method to attach the cork/rubber to the airframe...ie do you use cement, proseal, etc??
2. Does the rubber or cork get attached to the airframe first?

Hi Ryan,

FWIW, I used contact cement. Yes, it does get glued/attached to the tank support structure & straps first. If you’re asking if it’s glued to the tank also, I would say no.

Thanks John. I'm also trying to understand if the cork is cemented to the airframe and then the rubber is cemented onto the cork, or vice versa? I can't tell from the plans.

IMHO, cork then rubber. Rubber makes contact with the tank.

I installed my fuel tank and the sides of the tank are in contact with the longerons up near the firewall. What should I do about that?

Aluminum tank? Massage with a hammer.
