Today was "run the engine day"- I had to replace the crankshaft seal. This engine run confirmed that there is no leak. Now I can put the cowl on.
My list of items to finish is short. With any luck, I should be ready to fly by the first week of August.
I still need to adjust the ailerons, make the control stops for the elevator and mfg a couple covers for access panels.

WT took to the skies over Crestview Florida this am. I had a good friend conduct the test flight for me. His day job is test flying all the Extra 300's that arrive in the U.S. There are a few items that need to be addressed before it flies again. Adjustments were made to the flight controls after the first flight. After the second test hop it was decided that instead of flying the airplane back across the Eglin test range- we took the wings off, loaded it back on the trailer and returned it to Ruckel. I have to replace both of the original trim motors (elevator and aileron)...it won't be long before it'll be back at KCEW for follow on flights. A nice part of the day was that JW French (previous owner of WT) was in the area . He was present for the first and second flights today.

I was having lunch yesterday when JW called and told me 66WT was on the roll, you could hear the Thorp engine in the background as it made it's first flight. Congratulations on getting another T18 in the air. KD is just around the corner.

Here's a photo of WT, JW and me. The other is Doug Vayda - who did the test flight for me. And my 12 year old - Sofie came out to watch the excitement

This is WT back in the hangar after we brought it back to FL17. Beside it is Doug's demo for this season. Southeast Aero is letting Patty Wagstaff borrow it for a couple shows this year.

Terry,
Great to see another Thorp in the air. The trailer you used sure looks a lot better than the last time I moved my bird via trailer. How did you keep the flaps from deploying at highway speeds??? Now next year you can fly into Sedona instead of driving. :D
