I just called Clint at Vetterman Exhaust about a replacement exhaust for my T-18 (N7077J). The existing system on the airplane is not conducive to adding carb and cabin heat muffs.

It sounds like he is very familiar with the T-18. I've seen one post about using the Vetterman Exhaust, but thought I'd ask if anyone else on this forum has any experience with Vetterman. Thanks in advance.

Jim

I have one on mine. Had to make the front one (#1) a couple of times cause it wasn't tight enough to the engine for the cowl to fit. Other than that, it is perfect.

I got my exhaust from Custom Aircraft Parts. http://www.customaircraft.com/images/33250.jpg
It's a Lycoming crossover system with a muff on both sides. I lost some power switching from the 4 individual pipes I had but I gained speed.

I also have the Custom Aircraft exhaust . Fit perfect the first time . ;) I believe it came with one heat muff and the hot air pickup for carb heat . I would have to check my paperwork to be sure . It also helps that I live 30 min. from the factory ! ::)

Thanks!

Clint said he'd call me back on Monday. I'll ask him about the fit issue. If not, I'll get in touch with Custom Aircraft. I'm hoping to get the airplane back in the air by September.

Hello Jim,

These past few months I had to replace a system on a Thorp for a friend who had the old system fail in flight flying back from Bridgeport here in Texas. He thought his engine had blowned a jug and since my airport was just feefteen miles straight ahead, h came to my hangar.

Repaired it so he could fly it home and ordered a system from Clint and was here within three weeks. Installation was a breeze and everything fell in place with no interference from cowling and heat muff fit well. The only glitch was the tail pipes weren’t long enough. I ordered a system for my Thorp and he sent me 6” extensions for both. My only disappointment was that system was made using 1 1/2” instead of the 1 3/4” I had and wanted. I was reluctant to install them until I read up on it and found out Carbon copies with 190 hp engines were using them just fine.

Flew the airplane and had no loss of power and if I could put a mouse in the airplane, I think I could get him to tell me I picked up 2 knots.

Jim, you might be able to sell that exhaust on this forum.
