Thinking of replacing my 30+ YO mild steel exhaust while I'm tossing the money around with wild abandon. Current system is pretty rough. Has anyone tried the ACS system for tight cowlings? (PN 33250)

Why are the Cdn prices higher? I thought our dollar was about 1.02ish!

As of Tues night I am now in need of a new exhaust system for my O-290 powered Thorp. Looking for a cross over system, which suppliers have a decent exhaust setup to fit in a Thorp cowl? I have seen the ACS one mentioned previously and would like to know if there are any other options.

The exhaust pipe on the right side broke next to the weld in front of the ball joint. It almost looks like I took a hacksaw to it. Some how we missed the cracks that must have been there for a while, guess I need to get a magnifying glass.

Just glad it didn't happen this coming Sat during Young Eagle flights with a kid on board. I was taking my youngest son for a flight and at lift off we noted that the sound changed. At first I thought it might just be the new ANR headset with more airspeed sound. As we cleared the trees at the end of the runway we noted a burning smell, not wanting to take any chances I kill the master, whack that puppy pretty good, and did an immediate 180 back to the airport. After parking the airplane I did some trouble shooting thinking it was an electrical problem not finding anything I finally look under the cowl and found the busted exhaust.

I have used the exhaust from John Forshling with good results. Try him to see if he makes a small block exhaust. 303-841-6054

Bruce,

I just noticed your need for an exhaust system. As many of you know, my Thorp S-18 took a hit during Sun'n Fun so I am selling the good parts. That includes the stainless steel exhaust. I don't know if it would do the trick for an O-290 (my engine is an O-320 B3B modified for Dynafocal mounts. The exhaust is the cross-over type and I think I purchased it thru Aircraft Spruce or one of their vendors. Les Conwell. Phone nbr is: 727-841-9764

Les,
I'm interested. According to the Custom Aircraft Parts cross ref page, their cross over Thorp exhaust fit O-235, O-290 and O-320 engines with vertical induction. How much do you want for it? You can contact me off list at bfinney8@comcast.net

Thanks,

What price do you have on your exhaust system? My engine is a 0-320D3G (ex
PA 28 WarriorII). My aircraft is a T18C not yet finished

Not to rain on Les parade. I have the cross over stainless exhaust from my wrecked plane, It has mufflers and heat muff. It is from a O-320.

Gary

Can you advise if your exhaust has any damage and if so the extent of damage
and your price?

Regards

Thanks to the "Thorpforum", I have a buyer for the stainless steel exhaust system, and I just finished prepping it for shipment tomorrow.

Dick, Thanks for the inquiry---the exhaust system is sold already. Sorry, but as you may guess I have more stuff coming up soon. We will see how things go at Oshklosh.

Question for owners of crossover SS exhaust systems on O360's: What are your pipe sizes coming off the cylinders, and what are the pipe sizes after the 2-into-one collectors?

Mine is 1.75" OD right to the tail... doesn't seem right to me. According to my slide rule, the tailpipes should be 2.5" OD to keep area constant.
