Guys,

It's been a while now since we lost Dave Flatter and I was wondering if there has been any determination as to what happened? Here in Canada it takes up to a year to see the NTSB accident reports and we typically don't see the US reports.

Just wondering.

I believe this accident is the subject of the "What Went Wrong?" article in the Feb2015 Sport Aviation.

Suspected cause was wake turbulence, although there was no official conclusion.

This was Dave's Thorp. The FAA was and is very hush about this accident. It is believed that he flew in behind the 757 for whatever reason. Dave was a retired airline captain and should have been aware of the wake of the 757. The plane broke apart prior to hitting the ground, They found it scattered over a sugar cane field. I hold been told by other airline pilots that they stay well clear of 757's as it has the worst footprint for turbulance. He had bought the plane from the original builder a few years prior.
