Post subject:  Seats

I'm redoing my seats, I found some beautiful stone colored leather at a unbelievable price, and as there is still snow on the ground up here now is a good time to recover. What I'm looking for is some pix's of your upholstered seats to get an idea of sewing differences and different cuts, any and all would be appreciated, and Lee I remember seeing a pix of your new ride and at least a partial pix of your seat was included do you have a full pix?

Thanks Lance

If you go to the Projects section. Find Lee's posting. Page 5 and scroll down there are 2 photos of his seats. Hope this helps.

Here's a couple photos of the interior Jeff Blanton put together. He did a great job, they are very comfortable and I always get asked if I own an upholstery shop when someone looks inside my plane.

Hope these help,

Here's one for you. How about seat heaters?

Bill, it's funny you should mention that. I bought a kit on ebay to do do just that. It has the heat pads, switch and basic wiring for ~50 bucks. They draw 3-5 amps and fit just under the seat covering. In that they could be put in retroactive. I was also trying to find a way to not put a hole in the firewall and use an electric heater for cabin heat. I just haven't found one that puts out enough B tU's vs electrical draw- yet. Both of these are for 218TH...and right now it's more important to get WT back in the air.

Funny you should ask. Just finished these and put them in yesterday. Frames are posted earlier in the album; made them a little taller than what you see in most others. Nothing special, but I did get Temper-foam for the bottoms and added extra foam for lumbar support. Backs slip over the top and bottoms have Velcro on 3 sides to pull it down. A 1/8" horizontal wire rod at the juncture of back and bottom used to keep them both tight; screws eyes hold wire rod to rear. Put a pocket on backs for sectionals, etc. to be handy. My wife helped, but this will be my first and last sewing project!

Lance, the bottom foam was laminated: 2" Temperfoam top with 2" regular poly foam underneath (15.5" x 17"). Back foam: 1" poly. I glued 1" foam all around the back frame too. Fabric was upholstery type from JoAnn's. Altogether, total weight for the seat was about 5-6 lbs.

New thorp owner here! Thinking about making an extra pair of seat backs. They’re super comfy but a little forward. Hoping the backs come right off.
