Drop in tubs seem to be the way to go for a retrofit solution. Leaving a gap between the bottom of the tub and the belly is a good idea to prevent chafing a hole through the belly skin. It might be a small enough area that it wouldn’t be necessary but I was wondering if anyone using this setup found that some kind of reinforcement of the tub floor might be good?
