I am sad to report that another of our great Thorp family went west last night. Ben Scola passed away after a bout with pneumonia. As many of you know his wife of many years, Teresa, passed away just two and a half weeks ago after a courageous battle with cancer. Those of us who frequent Kentucky Dam and Oshkosh will remember them as our great hosts with an open porch and open trunk for some great libations and good talk. They will be sorely missed....

Ah man. A legend. What a great couple they were. I’ll always remember their OshKosh trailer. Sorry to hear about them both.

That is so sad, Bob. What great people & friends they were. Vicki & I first got to know them both better many years ago at a Thorp fly-in in Mattoon, IL. We were thinking of flying to Chicago to see some relatives afterwards, and I was a little apprehensive about doing it. They were so helpful & encouraging about it, and since they lived there they were very familiar with Meigs field. I'm so glad we flew there and had the experience, and I always think of them when I recall it. Oshkosh, other fly-ins, their trailer... yes, they were special in my heart.

Sad news but glad Ben is not in pain anymore ... we will definitely have to find a way to honor them both moving forward. The were both outstanding individuals and we were all blessed to have known them.
