Has anybody tried to use the cheap Harbor Freight Hydraulic/air riveter to pull a 5/32 cherry max rivet?

Well I could not wait any longer. I drove over to the harbor and purchased the 3/16 version. Under $25 with a coupon in my e-mail. It pulled 15 #5 cherry max rivets perfectly :)

I pulled 98% of my CM rivets with a HF hydraulic rivet puller . Only 2 downs sides to the Commie puller . (1) Once in a while a stem will get jammed in the "jaws" , not a big deal just get a used stem and push it out to the back of the puller . (2) When it stops pulling rivets it might be due to low oil (if not a jammed stem) , then get some hydraulic jack oil , take off the bottom and fill the tiny oil reservior . If you put too much oil in it will spit it out all over the place . I got mine several years ago when they were about $30.00 on sale , so I bought 2 to have a back up . ;)

A wise, seasoned citizen and (to me at least) national treasure T-18 builder once said of Harbor Freight Tools... "Use it once, throw it in the harbor".

I have a harbor freight tool box that works fine though......their paint gun sucks....or maybe it was the operator.....

Wise man in dress correct 50% of the time . 95% of my tools are Craftsman , but if I need a one time tool for a small job I'll spend my $2.99 at HF . If I need an expensive BIG tool for a one time job (not going down that road ) I'll rent the tool (not going down that road either ) . Regarding the HF spray gun I bought a $180 DeVillbis HVLP spray gun and after 1 hour of BAD results I put it away and got out the $19.99 HF auto paint gun and painted the beast in the driveway . Thinning , flow adjustment and a water filter are a must . I think NX115RX came out pretty good for a driveway paint job ! No bugs . ???

Rich, you paid to much for your HF gun, I wait until they are on sale for 12.95 and use my 20 percent coupon. I have found that you buy the cheapest gun and when you can do a good paint job go buy the $500 Iwatta and you will be a pro. I use the HF all the time and the results are pretty good. Paint, hardener, the correct reducer(hot,med,slow) and mixing exactly per instructions, proper setup of air pressure, paint flow will give best results. Another problem is the nozzle size with the HF, at 1.4 you can spray asphalt, needs to be 1.3 or 1.2. I run the HF at 75 pounds to atomize the paint better.

Bill : Remember I live in California . Home of the C.A.R.B . California Air Resources Board , they control everything that sprays , spits , fogs , s _ _ ts and passes gas ! They probably have a small tax on every gun sold in California . I think my spray job came out a little better than average because I wet sanded and buff the hell out of the paint ! Now that I think about it I may have bought a few guns in the $15.00 range ?

I remember back in the late 60's/70's living in Cucamonga , Ca. the SMOG was soo thick in the Summer it hurt to breath . No unleaded fuel then. When you flew it was SVFR and we had no GPS/I-Pads to get us around the LA basin ! You used your 50 cent Terminal chart and flew with 75 cent 100 Octane in your tank ??? BOOM !

It has improved from the 70's . LA Basin and the Inland Empire were terrible ! It was then we had to install PCV valves, No NOX systems , SMOG pumps , but the real ass bitter was the leaded fuel and the 454 Chevy Big blocks gettin 8-10 miles to the gallon . I guess I am guilty too as I had a 1969 Chevelle Super Sport with a 327 and 4 barrel Holly with a high rise intake . Had a 21 gallon tank and at 23 cents a gallon I could afford the gas ,but when gas jumped to 75 cents in a few weeks I was sucking fumes as an 18 year old making $1.05 an hour ! Remember when you could go "Crusin" with your Buddies and ask them for 25 cents for gas ! With your 25 cents and their $1.00 you could cruise all nite ! BADA BING , BADA BOOM ! :o
