 Also, if you don't bother, then you need to leave the line open at the height where it enters the carb.  If you have a line going down from there to the container, you're siphoning, not just gravity draining. Even a couple of inches makes a big difference.
 
 Seems to me that "reverse flow action" mentioned would only occur when the plane is accelerating, but the three gallons or so worked in my test, like Bill Williams said.
 
 Part 23 para 955 says "150% of takeoff consumption"
