Hi all
another novice question
Anyone have experience using the Whitney punch with the combination punch and dimple die set?
Spruce list them for the No. 5 Jr. punch in 3/32, 1/8 or 5/32" 100

My 2 cents, just get the standard tool and punch set. You don't want to cut and punch dimple at the same time. Most of the time I use the 3/32 die and then once the piece is set and clecoed up in 3/32 I drill it out 1/8 (#30) and then dimple later.

You don't get a good dimple with these all in one deals. You need a coining die to end up with a good flat skin after riveting.

Great for punching holes in rubber, gasket material and thin sheet metal for non-structural parts. I have the Whitney #5 punch that is made in the USA and works 4.0. Not sure about the Commie knock offs ?

This is all a matter of preference but I love my Whitney punch. I know guys who have never used one and have been none the worse off for it. But I use mine on almost everything I make (if it's sheet metal). Creates a burr-less hole, great for transferring holes from templates, skins to ribs, ribs to skins etc. A lot less metal shavings laying around too. I put three nut plates on a piece today in the field using nothing but the Whitney punch, squeezer and a cleco in about 1 min. All I needed was 3 tools and the nutplates.
