Just noticed when logging my latest oil change that I've cracked the 100 hour mark in 589LW. It's been a blast, what an awesome plane and great community. Thanks for welcoming me!

One fuel economy note I never posted anywhere else here- with the PMag replacing the right mag in the O-360, I'm burning about a gallon (and change) an hour less than Fraser and Cubes with their O-320's. That's in formation, repeated over several fuel stops. Some of that is no doubt due to excellent pilot technique, but give Lee credit for buildi.ng a really slick Thorp, too.
Still, for a O-360 to burn significantly less than O-320's is quite a testament to the electronic ignition...

Well, actually Homey, it's pretty common for an O360 to burn less along side of an O320. Spanky does it every week. The 360 is not working as hard for the same speed.

That electronic makes it smooth don't it Homey, it is very efficient, what is your fuel burn at cruise speed at 6500 ft or so? Dan

The O-360s have the best specific fuel consumption of all the 4 cylinder Lycomings. Like Dan, I'm wondering about fuel burn also... do you have any numbers for your averages when cruising at 7500 MSL (your normal TAS & GPH)? I have an O-320-D2A (160 hp) & average 6.7 to 7.0 GPH @ 180 MPH TAS.

Very true, Frase.. I have busted a guy in flight lead upgrade for burning too much of his wingman's fuel.

I need to do some better data logging to get accurate numbers. Also, absent headwinds, I'm flying xc as high as practical, usually 12500 to 15500' so don't know much about the altitudes you asked about. At high altitudes, I'm typically indicating just under 7 gph at 2350RPM and the throttle off the firewall just enough to show about a .1" MP drop from peak, leaned out just as much as I can lean without running rough. It varies a bit flight to flight, right around 7 GPH. Indicated burn. Haven't check groundspeeds on a course (both ways for wind...). Fast bird, though (thanks again, Lee...)

For this moment I'm in the middle of no where, just parts everywhere in the hangar :(
