Frase has returned to the ranks of the aviating Thorp crowd. DWH-U42 by way of Sweetwater, TX, Clovis, NM and Cortez, CO. 8 hrs total. The last pic is what you guys have been waiting for.  182 mph ind @ 4500 ft  GPS verified  Sweetwater, TX  Clovis, NM  Cortez, CO  MLM2 on the ramp at CEZ  MLM2 on the ramp at CEZ  Beautiful Scenery in bound to SLC  and again ...  and again ..  and again!!  and the pic you've all been waiting for ... |

I'm embarrassed, and a little ashamed at having to admit (both to myself and to the rest of the world)I didn't have the intestinal fortitude to gut the project out to completion.....but sure happy to be in the air again....there are a lot of (as I expected)little projects that came with her, but the airframe and power plant seem sound. Many thanks to Lee and Walton Aviation for taking care of the issues necessary to get the plane up here, delivering it safely and taking the project airplane on. This group never ceases to amaze me with the quality, generosity and integrity of those within it. |

Rich I'm confused, where is the picture of the "Scooter"? Haven't heard of the T-18 referred to as a Scooter. The T-11 (later T-111 & T-211) were all called the Sky Scooter. |

Sorry for the confusion. I tend to drift off course once in a while. Scooter[/i] was a term used for the Navy A-4 [i]Skyhawk. The comment about the dude looking for pocket treasure still applies. RB |

Fraser, Since the new bird has a "glass" panel and you've been grounded for a while, how many hours of "retraining" is it gonna take so you can fly solo??? [:)] enquiring minds want to know. |

Bruce - I've only got 45 minutes in the plane so far - have spent about 10 seconds looking at the Dynon - my eyes go from airpeed to altitude, either side of the Dynon, skipping it completely, so I'm still steam gauging it - the 45 minutes has been slow speed handling, a little upside downing it, and getting used to the C/S prop. I still haven't stalled it yet - I went to change the tailwheel last sunday and stripped a rear nut plate - then when I removed the tail feathers, I found the rear chromolly(S) was cracked - it was spanning the bottom longerons without a spacer between the angle and the skin - so am getting a new one made and putting in a spacer - should be in on the weekend - in the meantime, am replacing some bushings and some other hardware, as well as doing some other touchup stuff - all to be expected in a 30 year old aircraft. All in all it's a great ship. I'll give you updates on how long it takes for my peepers to start using the Dynon as the PFD, but I suspect it might take awhile - especially on approach. Other than that, it flew just as I expected and as arrogant as this sounds, I don't think I lost more than a half step in the last 7 months of ground pounding misery. |

You might think it is funny, but go buy a Microsoft Flight Simulator CD. Get one like the AirBus CD. Many EFIS panels to choose from. It will help you with the scan. RB |
