Thanks Guys .. you're in there now ..

Dan .. your plane is listed as a model "S-18 THORP"????

Always confused by the Model names we all enter ... I always assumed

Manufacturer (Builder name)
Model "Thorp T-18","Sunderland S-18", "T-18C", or "T-18CW"

Here are some of the Models in the registry ...

'S-18',
'S-18T',
'SUNDERLAND S-18',
'SUNDERLAND S18',
'T-18',
'T-18C',
'T-18CW',
'T18J',
'TAYLOR T-18',
'THORP',
'THORP S-18',
'THORP T-18',
'THORP T-18-C',
'THORP T18C',
'THORP-18',
'THORPE T-18',
'T-18-2',
'BURKE THORP T18',
'S-18 THORP'

Lee,
Here's three more that I know of in the NW
118JT - Gary Jacobsen
67RJ - Steve Barrett
174P - Paul MacMichael

I checked and they are in the registery but I don't find them on the Thorp Map

I noticed that my friend Joe Gauthier's S-18 wasn't on the map, N22067. The plane is based in Hartford, CT.

Understood Dan,
We're all free to put whatever we want down a the aircraft model ... I'm just pointing out that it's hard to get 100% coverage when people enter odd names ... I was not looking for 'S-18 Thorp' as that just didn't occur to me ...

The S-18 is a Sunderland Design (i.e. Sunderland S-18), John Thorp did not want his name associated to that design as the point was to remove him from liability/support as his health began to fade. That's the whole reason the 'Thorp T-18CW' became the 'Sunderland S-18'.

Either way as I said, we can put whatever we like in that field ... 'Dan DE-1' is just as legal as 'S-18 Thorp' but some of the one off model names did not get caught on the first pass ..

... If I left anyone else off please let me know!

It did not occur to me Lee that John Thorp had absolutely no say in the design of the S version of the Thorp, Guess I have been misinformed so sorry for that and the history I studied was incorrect. I have been thinking for the past 10 years that I had built a Thorp, and have actually called it that, when folks asked what it was I always responded with S-18 Thorp. Looks like I have been mistaken.....Dan

No worries Dan! It's absolutely a Thotp. Just expressing the difficulties with parsing the FAA registry for Thorps.

Call it whatever you want ... It's a Thorp!

To clarify. The S-18 is a T-18CW, it was just rebranded to remove Thorp from involvement. Most plans are the same drawing with just the lower right hand replaced with a Sunderland brand.
