This last Saturday the wife and I (along with 3,000 of our closest friends) watch the largest fly over since WWII, from the flight Deck of the USS Midway on San Diego Bay. We were hoping for better WX, but we managed to still see a great show with calm winds, 74 degrees on the flight deck and clear skies. You know you are getting a little older when you see 5 of the aircraft you have flown in the fly over that have been retired !

Alright you two ! I just bought a ticket like everyone else on the Midway, I didn't plan the event, I am just the messenger ! My guess would be having to plan around the following Govt. agencies... Port of San Diego, the FAA (less than 1 mile from KSAN arrivals and departures...sure wouldn't want to PO SWA !). the City of San Diego, having to fly over the Coronado Bridge. All these and more probably had a say in the min. altitude. There was probably a retired Air Force pilot on the planning board from the City. It just felt more comfortable to him to have everyone fly high.

I can say, I've flown in a B-17. The five A/C that are retired, that I flew...

1. T-28 VT-2 NAS Whiting.
2. T-2 Buckeye NAS Meridian
3. CT-39 VRC-30 NASNI
4. A-4 NAS Meridian
5. C-9B VR-57 NASNI

Any more complaints, take them up SECNAV or the Mayor of San Diego ! Now...you two get back to making more mischief.

FWIW, I did not take the pictures or shoot the video.
