Stuart: Most of the drawings, especially the full size ones you can just measure the distance. Like the flaps, I believe are 1.5 inch spacing. My side skins have the rivet spacing at 2", some are slightly less (1 15/16"). As long as you use 2" spacing and adhere to the required spacing for the AD doublers (as well as the reduced spacing for the wing nose rib rivets to 1" spacing) , I would not be too concerned with trying to maintain an "exact" spacing between rivets. The 1/4" edge distance is required. Drawing B-593 shows an approx. location for the cutout for the hor. trim torque tube. You will see slight variations on this cutout, depending on how the builder makes the cut out. The drawing is also 1/4 scale, so measuring the distance between the drawn rivets is 1/2", depending how your eyeball is calibrated. Drawing 518 shows the rudder cable cutouts and the micarta rudder cable fairlead. I used the NL locations for the side static ports. You will find folks use a variety of locations for the static port and some do not even use a static port and just vent directly behind the panel (with the associated error). If you can obtain a side skin long enough to avoid the splice do it. If not the NL will have info on how to do the splice.

I think it is fantastic that you have the ability to do the computer stuff and transfer it to a template for machine cutting! I hope the above info. helps.

Stuart : airparts inc. in Kansas can supply aluminum sheet in any length you require and are very good people to deal with.

I think Stuart is down under ? Cost of the freight might be a wee bit on the high side ! [:0]

Thanks for the comments guys Rich is right I'm based in OZ and freight would normally an issue.
However in this case I already have some full length 032 skin material. The splice reference in my post was just to make sure I was detailing the option, I'm not planing to splice the skins

Re the rudder cable cutouts. For those that have moved the rudder cables to the sides. If you relocate the cables what changes if any are required to the position of the rudder cable cutouts in Dwg 518? I recall write ups in the newsletters but not sure if there was any mention of this!

If you are using .032 skins you certainly do NOT need closer spacing

I agree the spacing is fine as the plans call out. If I were to double the spacing I would use #3 rivets, the extra spacing would let the metal lay down smoother.
