I think JT was more concerned with stick pressures than balance. I have seen Thorps that had a plain stick made out of the 3/4" aluminum tube and Thorps that had a 2 x 4 for a stick grip, this alone would throw off the balance of the controls. I believe the weight od the linear actuator and RAC are about the same. I have flown 1100 hours and had zero problems with detachment, but I think the trim would fall in trail and no flutter. I am under the impression the Frigelli micros are 10MM - 100MM travel and have preset limit switches and cannot be adjusted.

The setups discussed here seem far more "conventional" than John Thorp's "lower one flap" method. But, I have a question.

Given a flap control system as is shown on the plans, are there deficiencies in the trim design? What is the advantage of true aileron trim?

The per-plans flap-trim system only raises the left wing. If you're imbalanced right wing heavy you're on your own.
