The CJ3A fuel cap I am using is vented. I don’t recall if the thermos style “squeeze the rubber until it bulges” cap I had was or not. It wouldn’t hold anymore so I replaced it with something that had tabs to hold it in place. The Willys cap was the only thing I could find that was an easy retrofit.

As far as vapors in the cockpit, the builder of my airplane built a scupper drain that does a pretty good job of keeping overflows and vapors out of the cockpit. If I find myself on the ground hanging from my harness, I doubt my hair will be getting a gasoline wash. What little dribbles past the cap should just go out the access panel unless I crash in a water hole.

The PA-23 fuel cap I replaced is vented. I would not use any cap held in place solely by compressing rubber after my experience with this cap. When I was searching for a replacement I found out there are several caps that look different but operate exactly the same so I won’t use them. Just my opinion.
