Bill Williams wrote: Whoa! if talking about the fitting for a Marvel carburator it is a straight thread with a nut, O ring and an washer and not a pipe thread. This fitting is the same as the fuel pump fitting and can be positioned at any angle. MA-4 & -5 carburetors have a 1/4"-18 tapered pipe thread from the factory. As I mentioned in my first post on this subject, some other carbs may have a straight machine thread, & you use an o-ring & check nut to seal & secure the fitting (at any angle you want), but not MA-4s & 5s unless they have something non-original. As Scott (& I) suggested, a straight fitting on the carb along with a 90 deg. fitting on the hose is a fine way to go. The long-radius "sweep" elbow fitting that Scott suggested would be my choice. |

John, I think we are both correct. In looking at both MA4 carbs I have in the hanger both have a straight thread in the casting. There is an adapter that is straight thread and a crush washer that screws into the carb, the other end is a 1/4 pipe thread. I removed this fitting and installed a 90 straight thread fitting using an O ring and washer/nut. |
