Vx climb is one thing, zoom climb quite another. Gravity good, positive pressure better. 20 degrees deck angle on a cool day with one on board is not out of the question.

Dick, my bladder is comfortable at 2hrs most generally, at 2hrs 20 min I feel the preasure I am un snapping my pants. At 2.5 hrs I better be on the ground or dragging out the travel John....I moved my tank vent not long ago, so I had to do some testing, I stood the bird on its tail, 80 mph into a steep climb and held it there up to 6000 ASL. I don't ever climb at this rate, but did this to check that all would be well, I could not see over the nose, I don't know what the angle was but it is too steep for me to be comfortable but all went well. Any opinions as to whether the vent should be within or outside of the propeller arc?

Hasn't it been inside the arc for the last 50 years ? ???

Yes, inside the arc Frase.

I assume inside the arch means right in the prop blast? If this is the meaning, I think it is a good Idea to have the vent facing and right into the prop blast, seems it would be most effective that way. So if I am way off base here someone sing out and let me know....Dan

My vent is nothing more than a #6 tube sticking down near the front center of the floorboard. It is cut off at a 45 degree angle on the front face and protrudes about 1/4" on the short side. I have no scoop on the cowl, so it is directly into the prop blast. My scupper vent for the area around the tank filler cap is the same thing only the angle cut faces aft. Works fine.

Dick,

I was wondering if your issue is the units of measure? Maybe you are measuring real gallons( imperial) and the rest of the guys are talking US gallons?

Thanks everyone. This has been a very good thread for me! I LOVE your solution for the vents, Bob! Once again I find myself doing a face-palm and saying, "Why didn't I think of that?" I pi$$ed around with bulkhead fittings, clearly violating the prime directive to simplicate and add lightness.

Jim.....I did use a 1 imp-gal container, but did the math for 1.25 USgal.
