I was inquiring with David Read on smoke pumps the other day. He referred me to the unit he's using POWERCO E8845. Upon purchasing one ($45) I realized this pump is the basis for the Airflow Performance pump ($410).

With a tad bit of modification (plumbing/check valve) an aux high pressure pump could be fabricated for 10% of the asking price at Airflow.

Anyone with an Airflow Performance pump keep this in mind if something fails ... I just bought a spare to carry around with me. One downfall of FI ... can't really go anywhere without a boost pump.

I wish I could say that I do not have any experience with that crappy design. They are the most fragile part of any system on any airplane I have ever been associated with. I STRONGLY suggest you have a very fine in line filter up stream of one of these pumps and that you clean it regularly.

Lee,

Nice work. Could you also create a parts list?

Regards,

Jim

I’m going to clone one here in the next few weeks. In a nutshell this is what’s involved.

Just FYI, the Airflow Performance set up has a #70 hole drilled into the check valve for the purpose of bleeding the lines after shutdown.
