What Lee didn't mention is that the runway at M34, Kentucky Dam, will be closed for repairs during our intended event. Hence the one-time move to Lake Barkley.

Yes, thanks Bob ... this is a one off change ... we do expect M34 (Kentucky Dam State Park Airport) to be closed. Please spread the work to those who may not check the forum or website.

Thanks for the update Lee.

I imagine we need to cancel our reservations at the lodge and rebook at the new resort location? Are there any provisions for transferring a reservation from one resort to the other?

Call Barkley and ask for the PAINE party. 270-924-1131. And yes, you need to cancel Ky Dam Lodge. Each is independent; no way to transfer that I know of.

So Karen and I went to Lake Barkley today, I had never been there. There are no markings on the runway at all but it is nice and smooth. There are 13 tie down locations on the ramp, none had ropes but George that lives in the little pilot building says he has a spool of the rope. There is plenty of room in the grass if we have more planes than that. I would bring your own ropes if you have it in case he isn’t around. George is going to bring out some more picnic tables and will bring out a grill as well. Does the chef want charcoal or gas? The airport is off by itself, seems like a nice setup to me. The pilots lounge has some seating inside and a nice roofed lean to on each side. You still might want to bring your lawn chair.
We took the car up to the lodge, about 4 miles, they will come right out and get you. There is a lot of stairs involved but there is a nice big dining room with great service. There is some outside seating on an elevated deck and everything looks out over the lake with lots of glass.
This place looks like a nice facility and the folks there all seemed excited that we were coming to see them. It is a fairly secluded area which is a plus this year with the virus and all. I hope all of you that have been wishing for a place to go come see us and if the weather cooperates it should be a great time. See you there!

Sorry to report, the annual fish fry has been cancelled. Jim Fain, our traditional host, has been apprised of our venue change.

Looking at the forecast and projected path of Hurricane Delta it looks like this is the wrong weekend to plan an aviation themed gathering in Kentucky. With that being said lets cancel plans for this weekend with the hopes of regrouping in the near future. I propose 2 weeks but that is certainly up for discussion. Please reach out to anyone you know who plans to attend that may or may not be following the forum. I'll update the main site as well.

I won't be able to make it in two weeks. We'll be in Alaska visiting our son and our extended family. Have fun and be safe all.

Lee,

Are we firmly canceling for this weekend, or is it a tentative/probable cancellation based on the hurricane path?

I'm unable to come if we delay two weeks. I could do three or five weeks delay.

Unfortunately it's a firm cancellation ... the hurricane's path takes it right up through KY. The forecast for that area shows no fly days Saturday and Sunday. Sounds like at least 3 of us cannot do 2 weeks from now. Let's start talking about what does work 2, 3, 4, 5 weeks?
