I’m planning on being at Oshkosh from Friday the 27th to Sunday the 29th. I bought the EAA weekend camping package, but is there much hope of parking spaces available on the field on the last weekend?

I’ll be flying up from central Florida on Friday morning in N41BS... unless my new registration comes in, in which case it will be in N444MA.

I think there will be parking for aircraft on friday. Some people Who fly slow llanes and or come from Far away start meaving on Friday.

Saturday the departures outnumber the arrivals probably 5 to 1. So if you don’t like your r spot fromfriday you probably can move on Saturday.

Bob (and anyone else flying from the southeast),

Where are you planning your fuel stop(s) on the way up to Oshkosh? From Gainesville, the halfway point is at the Tennessee / Kentucky border. Can you recommend a good place to stop near there? I'm not looking to spend a lot of time on the ground, but an on-field restaurant might be nice.

The direct route from Florida goes through Atlanta and Chicago class B airspace. It's easy enough to go around, although a high-altitude overflight would be fun.

Do any of you guys fly formation enroute to/from Oshkosh, or is it mostly single-airplane flights?

I will be driving this year, unfortunately. Usually stop in McMinnville and get the crew car. Cheap gas. Overnight in West Chicago. Not cheap gas. Relatives. Not too many airport restaurants any more. Pack a lunch. Several groups on this forum do fly up in formation. Go around the class Bs as the airliners drop in from the top. Beware of wake turbulence from descending large jets.

This is a good time to mention that we will be having our usual Saturday before OSH get together at KOLY in southeast Illinois on Saturday the 21st. Anyone passing through is welcome to join us. The plan is that some folks will be stopping in later in the morning. We always play airplanes all day, hopping rides and flying formation around the area. We plan to fix something in the smoker for lunch. If you stay till dark we always go into town to the Mexican restaurant for the evenjing festivities. I already know we are putting up 3 folks at our house that night but I can farm out more if necessary. Sunday morning we fly on up to OSH as a group, usually a nearly 2 hr flight to Watertown. Stop for fuel and walk down the drive for an early lunch then fly the arrival and set up camp.

Wx permitting, I'll be wheels down OSH between 10 AM and 11 AM, Monday morning after a luxurious stay at the No Tell Motel in Cherokee IA. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Made travel plans to be at KOSH Tuesday and Wednesday. Looks like EAA has the Thorp Forum scheduled for Thursday.

Hmmmm. Bummer, dudes.

I'm driving in to OSH tomorrow so I won't be able to make the play day in Olney on Saturday. I'll be at OSH all week so hope to see everyone there.

I will be flying in commercial on Tuesday and departing on Sunday. My rewiring project has been never-ending, so in the hangar she's staying until I get back. I'll be staying in Sleepy Hollow by the BEER TENT.

Just thought I throw that bit in for feelers and maybe someone would come up with a good venue.

I recently went to Gaston's in Arkansas for a weekend. The grass strip was awesome, grounds great, rooms great (and only $96 for a decent one), food was excellent. Sunday morning 10$ all you can eat brunch with coffee and juice, made to order eggs. Swimming pool, kayaks, boats, walking trails, etc.

As I talked to a few others they have wanted to go there. Last year weather kept me away. Gastons is a little further west if that helps anyone. I really enjoyed my weekend there. Watching the planes come and go on that grass strip was pretty fun as well.

I will be at oshkosh saturday morning until evening. I'll try to look everyone up. Due to poor weather forecast here locally I'll be flying the cherokee so I can return home IFR and get into my airport.
