I'm going to have to miss this one. WT is condition inspection complete, but my A&P had to get back to Saint Augustine in advance of "Matthew" - no sign off before he had to abruptly leave. Sorry to miss the fun

Probably won't make it this year as Matthew is due here late Friday. Our son Robert evacuated JAX and staying with us also. Hope to be flying there next year.

I had planned on leaving Friday morning for KY Dam but decided with a CAT 4 hurricane a few hundred miles away and headed right for us it wasn't such a good idea. I flew my Aeronca Champ Friday at noon and the ceiling was about 200 feet! Hardly any wind at that point. By Saturday noon we had 7 + inches of rain and the power was out. My wife is very thankful I didn't go!

Thanks for the pics Lee. Anyone going to do a little write up regarding how many planes and people showed up, new people, etc.

Thorpies,

I've attended KD for several years now and have enjoyed the gathering even when there were only two airplanes on the ramp and less than a dozes attendees for the weekend. My airplane once spent the time at a small airport south of Kentucky state line on account of weather, but managed to make it to KD via road from there.

However, while KD has been fun to visit, visiting with the group and being a tradition spot for the fall meet, I would like to see other parts of the country for gathering. Anyone given thoughts on other places and more centrally located so maybe east and west can meet at the same time?

The geographic center of the Lower 48 is N39°50' W98°35', which is about 2.6 miles northwest of Lebanon, KS. The closest airport to that is Smith Center Municipal Airport (http://www.airnav.com/airport/K82) south of Smith Center, KS. Can't get more "centrally located" than that. Plus, the rumor is that Van Halen plays there every Saturday night.

Just sayin'

Kentucky Dam is a tradition that's been held for 28 years or so. As noted has been well attended even with bad weather.
The Florida bunch has always attended gatherings from North Dakota and all places in between. I would welcome a gathering elsewhere, just plan the dates not to conflict with Sun N Fun.

I hope KD is still on for 2017, though!!!! I've already put it in my day timer. IN PEN!!! I can't change it!! (I was planning to be spontaneous that day.)

KD is still on, as mentioned it's a tradition. In past we had KD as the fall gathering and someone somewhere always hosted a gathering in the spring.
