Not sure how many this applies to, but thought I would pass the info out to all..
If you want to fly formation in waivered airspace (ie airshow) you need to have some sort of FAA checkout. Some of us have been certified by a company called Formation Flying Inc. This company, and all certification entities came under increased scrutiny lately due to an accident in Alabama. The bottom line is that your FFI card, or any other, will now be subject to limitations. FFI has changed ownership. I know all the board members and I'm very close to the top two. What they are telling me is that the current card holders will have a restriction placed on them. Something like straight and level at 1,000ft. If you desire closer, lower, or more aerobatic capability, you will need to be evaluated again. The details are being worked out right now between FFI, ICAS, and the FAA. In the mean time, do not attempt low level aerobatics or any maneuver the projects a flight path toward the crowd.
If you need more info, PM me please.
