Does anyone know anything about the T-18 for sale on Barnstormers? It is in Compton, CA, has an O-360, and 400+hrs but the ad says "not licensed" and the photos show no N number. As I understand the text of the ad, the plane has been flying for over 400 hours and has never had an airworthiness certificate. Can that be? My neighbor, Ronnie Skaggs is very interested in it.

Gary,
I've been told it has a deposit on it. I have a local guy here who wants it as well. Looks like a damn nice airplane to me.

I looked at this for a nano-second. How would you get
this licensed? What other rules were ignored in construction?
How did it fly for 400 hrs with no N-Numbers?
I would be interested "in the rest of the story" when
It is flying legally.

This happens quite frequently. Usually the original builder does not want his name associated to the build for liability reasons therefore he deregisters the airplane before sale. All that is needed is a visit from a friendly member of your local FSDO in conjunction with a new n number from the FAA (online) . A new set of operation limits are issued and you have a legal airplane. The only Hangup here is that you will not be issued a repairman certificate.

like Lee said, I believe as long as the AW certificate is not surrendered to the FAA, then you can get legally the bird back in the air. If the AW cert has been surrendered, it will be a pile of scrap (forever) after the surrender.

The way I interpreted the wording in the Barnstormer's ad, the airplane had never been issued an airworthiness certificate. It was not "out of license", it had never had a license. The buyer had better beware.

Not the case here, just a deregistered aircraft. And a nice one at that!
