Hey all, Ira, Dean and Myself have talked some about the Gathering at KVIS this year. I know that some will be going to Reno, so we discussed having it the first part of October and maybe the weather will be a little cooler. We had a big time in Utah having a fly out to Windover on Saturday, so we have discussed a Flyout on Saturday for the KVIS Gathering as there are many points of interest here in the valley and over on the coast, everyone likes to do the fly outs so I think this will be in order. First part of Oct, let's have some comment on this as everyone will know about what the weather patterns are in their area and the route getting here, nothing is in stone yet so we just wanted everyone's views on Oct..............Dan

Dan,

Just as a reminder, Kentucky Dam is 10-12 October, 2014. Some of the Midwest and Front Range crowd like to come east for that. You might consider avoiding that weekend in your planning.

Dan, in light of Kentucky dam how about late Oct. or early November. It only starts cooling off around mid-October anyway.

Will make every effort to be there if it does not conflict with KY Dam.

Seems the Kentucky Dam fly in is popular!! This is a very good thing!!! OK, we will focus on about mid month in Oct and belay any problems that may arrise due to a conflict with the KD crowd. I myself would like to go to KD someday so that event needs to stay healthy. Not only that, it's been sometime since I've seen my ole buddy Steve Hawley. Come on now, let's have some more in put, Frase, you Commin over that granite wall with the rest of em? Dan

Dan, KD was started some 25 years ago by Judy and Jim Paine. I have been to all of the 25 gatherings along with the other Thorper's. Last year was the 25th year. We have had as many as 25 Thorps and as few as one. Patties serves the biggest, best pork chop you will ever have. Our wifes enjoy themsleves at Grand Rivers Settlement shopping and the guys fly sorties.
A good time is had by all.

I'm in Dan - my only concern is that come the second week in October, the Wx starts getting iffy - the jetstream starts dipping south over me at that time. Having said that, that's just me and my location. Wx is never guaranteed - plan for when you think best and I'll start humming mantras and rubbing the talisman for decent weather.

It's the same here, Frase. I'll be trying for Kentucky, with the same issue. California will be my backup, but weather is almost always problematic that time of year.

Getting out of the Seattle area can be a problem, this morning it's low IFR with fog, the later in the year the worse it gets. Sept and early Oct is usually good but not always. Would love to do Kentucky Dam but can't justify going that far for just a week end, KVIS will have to do this year. :)
