Post subject:  Wing Tip Light Wire Routing

Where is wing tip wiring normally routed through the outer C-wing? I am thinking to route the wing tip wiring immediately behind the main spar and at a height such that it would be above the aileron bellcrank cutout/reinforcment using Van's flexible conduit through 3/4" holes.

Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

If you intend folding the wing then you need to bring the wires out just infront of the rear spar. I opened out the rear jig hole in the ribs and fed a 3/8" alum tube thru clamping it at each end then fed wires through. Don't forget to make quick disconnect fittings at the wing joint. You need to be able to pull the wing pins then ease the wing out far enough to be able to disconnect the tip wiring.

Any tubing will work, I have used aluminum tube and polyvinyl tubing used for irrigation sprinklers. Light weight, flexible, and cheap are good attributes. If you are asking about routing within the folding wing then definitely route it back adjacent to the rear spar folding tube. I did not put connectors at the folding joint, I located disconnects under the seats. On the two occasions I removed my outer panels the wires slid out through the short section of tubing from the joint to the seat area. I did mount a heated pitot tube on the wingtip, this required a pitot line to also be located at the rear spar fold joint.

Don't use metal tubes in case you get chaffing. I have used Molex connectors at the wing joints in both my standard and convertible wings.

Appreciate the comments guys. I'll route just forward of rear spar with connectors and make sure to protect wiring.
