Someone was looking for info on 3 bladed props. Looking at one of the T-18's on Barn Stormers, it has a 3 bladed Catto Prop. It is also used on RV's. Looks pretty cool.

Interesting, I have short gear legs and an old cut down twisted prop.

Does anybody have the performance lowdown on a three blade prop for a T18?

One is Don Doubleday - recently completed T-18 - the other is Chuck Kincer, our resident KFC (Kilted Funeral Comedian) - everything he has or does is "odd".

Lou,
Just completed Phase I on N18DD and five additional hours to test the other prop. I'm almost sure I have a slight leak in my Pitot system and will provide better numbers once corrected. For now, the airplane with full throttle clocked 194 TAS at 3000 ft and 2590 RPM on the O-360 using the metal EM76 prop. With the three blade Performance prop, it clocked 192 TAS at 5000 ft and 2670 RPM.

The three blade Performance Prop made by Clark Lydic and finished by Frank Johnson gave me 2300 RPM static, while the EM76 gave 2010 RPM static. With full load of fuel, baggage and two on board, the EM76 will probably need three times as much runway than the three blade.

With apologies to Chuck Kincer for lifting this pic from his EAA 87 Project page:
There are a number of features in this pic, not the least is the CATTO prop, but certainly the whole hangar environment. Tools all over, work in progress, big smile, Quality time 'just messin' with airplanes' :D
