Where is everyone mounting their remote compasses? I thought about making a mount inside the fuse behind the rear bulkhead. I think with my electric trim motor being right behind the bulkhead I might have to make it quite a bit further back unless the consensus is that the trim motor won't make much difference since it's not on all the time.

That being said is it easier to service if I mount it by taking off the vertical fin so I don't have to climb back in there with a river gun from the front?

The other option was in the wing under the gap seal but I worry about moisture. I think some vans guys put it in a plastic bag but I'm not sure how well that will do because it has potential to trap atmospheric moisture and then condense inside. Maybe I'm just over thinking though.

Thanks all!

I put mine on a little shelf on the baggage area.

The center tunnel area? Under the floor or actual baggage area? I didn't want potential for a leaking bag or oil bottle. I also worried about cell phones our ipads in my flight bag causing interference as well.

Maybe I'm just over thinking as usual. I will say that the d10a internal sensor does not do well even with my very limited electronics in the panel and nothing within 10"

Mine is against the inside fuselage wall (along the longeron) in the pilot side baggage area. I don't have any problems.

Did you make a mount and rivet it into place?

That would be a nice location for ease of install

I velcro'ed it in place. The "shelf" is just an bike ramp shaped piece of aluminum to get it level. Its been rock solid for over 500 hours. Its never moved.

Velcro?? You aren't worried about any wiggle with that Velcro?

Well it looks like my install just became much easier!

Do you think the bottom skin would have too much vibration if I velcroed it to the floor

I would just try it. I bet it will be fine. But, since its going to be velcro'ed, if you dont like it, move it!

Whew did you put the oat probe? I was thinking under the elevator on the side of the fuse.

I have mine installed on an inspection hole cover plate, on the bottom of the airplane, located just aft of the pax side baggage compartment (extending out on the underside of the fuselage of course). There used to be an old huge grimes landing light in that location which I removed, thus the " inspection hole"

Does the exhaust not effect it on the underside?

I threw mine in the first bay on the pilots side, worked for 26 years before the display died, removed it a few weeks ago. Never thought much about what temperature it was outside. The more I shook the warmer I got.

I don't know. In my opinion, no. I think the probe is far enough back from the exhaust outlets, that there is none/negligible effect. you can adjust the temp to read lower on the D10 display if you decide the exhaust is making your temp probe read hotter than actual temp.
