Lou : If you can find at least 3 Loran stations that still transmit I would still throw it in the trash . I just bought an I FLY 520 GPS for $385 as a back up to my I FLY 720 GPS . We used the Loran as a back up to our INS unit in the Navy C-9B . It was a pain as we usually only got 2-3 stations to get a fix . I was a "good" back up to the INS to get us across the Pacific or the Atlantic . I FLY GPS works great and you get all the TAC, Sectionals , airport updates, etc. for the entire US for $69.00 a year . 8)

1. The Republic of Kalifornia would most likely frown upon recyclable material being place in the trash.

2. It will make a great paper weight to keep the pile of papers on your desk from cascading to the floor.

3. It would be a great conversation piece as part of the decorations in the bottom of the fish tank.

4. You can bring it to the Arlington fly-in next year and put it in the fly mart, there was a similar unit there this year with a $75 price tag, don't know if it sold or not. 8)

Note: Dan is refering to the other Washington. ;D

Bring it to the next KVIS Fly In and give it away as a door prize ! ??? Or set it out on the ramp and Dan can set us up with firearms to put it out of it's misery ! ;)

I've told this story before... right around 1991, I replaced my 360 channel nav-com with a KY97A. I needed nav, and was very taken with the new-fangled Garmin GPS-100. Several knowledgable friends tried in vain to convince me I should invest in a Loran unit ("The government will shut that GPS system down whenever they want to - stick with Loran!"). After enjoying the GPS for a couple of years, and when everyone else seemed to be jumping on the "GPS bandwagon", I felt pretty smart.
I still like my "steam gauges" though. O0
