Can't seem to find any discussion or pics of how to install the flap return springs on the folding wing. Don't want to put them on the inside as the plans suggested and I know others have worked this out so rather than trying to reinvent the wheel I would appreciate any ideas on this matter. Thanks.

If you want to take field trip, you can look at mine. Basically, I used the layout of the T-18 on the inner wing and again on the inboard side of the outer panel.

I have an Ameri-King 451 ELT that I'd like to replace. I'm looking at the ACK-04 and the Artex 345. What recommendations do you guys have? Actually, I need two replacement ELTs. One for the Cub and another for the T-18.

So, refreshing this topic. I see on the S-18 plans that the only return spring for the inner flaps is on the 631A drawing for the flap cable installation inside the fuselage. The aft inner rib drawing 200 shows not flap return spring installed. I have these springs installed in my fuse that attach to the flap control arm per 631A, but I am seeing pictures (attached, and as Bob suggests) of inner flap return spring installed on the inner wing/outer rib installed (see pics).

Is my assumption correct that there is only one spring in the fuse on the S-18 drawings (631A) that is needed? Is there a reason or advantage to install inner wing flap return springs in on the outer most rib OR having it installed as well as the inner rib of the outer wing? Drawings 631C shows the outer wing/inner rib with the spring mount installed on the rib. If you elect to install a spring on the outer rib of the inner wing (as show in pics) and you install one on the outer wing inner rib as shown in the plans (631C) will they interfere? Too much spring tension? Assume two are overkill and not needed?

Some insight and expertise welcome.

Rob

Install per pictures 2 and 3 only on the outer rib of the inner wing. The one in the fuselage is used to take up cable tension.

Okay, thanks Jim. Just to confirm that it is not shown on a drawing? Or am I missing finding the drawing where it is located/shown?

Also, in picture 3, there is what appears to be a doubler on the outside of the rib where the tube goes into the inner wing. Is this a requirement or mod that I missed somewhere as well or is it just a "beef up" done on this builder's wing?

I’ll find the drawing number. The doubler is not to plans.

In my setup, the fuselage spring is not needed as the outer rib of inner wing spring will take up slack when properly adjusted. The set up as shown in picture three works fine. The doubler is an add on, evidently.
